Saturn Rodeo

Saturn Rodeo is a small private tattoo studio located in NE Portland in the historic old beautiful Baker building. While facing a harder time and losing my last work due to the pandemic, I (Mary Sapp, owner/founder) had to find another option for work and it only made sense to tattoo somewhere solo for health and wellnesss purposes. Opened in the darker year of September 2020, Saturn Rodeo opened with a bright colorful aesthetic in hopes to bring the client to a happier spring daydream circa 1960’s/70’s.

Saturn Rodeo’s name is a homage to my love of Astrology. During 2020 we all lived through a very heavy Saturn placement in our countries astrology, one we hadn’t witnessed something like since the 1940s. (Saturn can bring strong boundaries, hardship, challenges etc) Additionally, my own personal chart is mostly ruled by Saturn too! As I opened this studio I reflected on all the obstacles in my own timeline that I had to live through and pass in order to be ready and motivated enough for my own business. In this thought, Saturn Rodeo developed- owning your strengths by taking on the countless struggles and hardships in life that never stop.

Mary Sapp

Born in Montana on beautiful acres at the foot of the cabinet mountains, I developed a very strong connection to the wild forest. I stayed in that tiny mountain town for most of my childhood and feel very fortunate my family relocated to Portland Oregon as I grew older. It was in the city at the age of 9 where I was introduced to simple tricks as to how to draw. From then on, I took my skills very seriously and expanded them to a vision of becoming a working artist. Later in my twenties, as a young mom, with just a few art classes from high school and the community collage under my belt, I took up Tattoo school and never looked back. Almost five years later, tattooing has become my life, and I am so grateful I found it. It is an honor to be able to do the work and to be able to connect to so many people through it.

As for Astrology, I have been reading charts and interested in this ancient practice for the past 14 years. I’ve always had a natural draw to it- reading about it as much as I could take in while saving and studying my friend’s and families charts (the collection is huge now!). Although I’ve never been trained under anyone or had any professional experience and do not claim to be an Astrologer, I recognize the wisdom within in the simple understanding of your own natal birth chart. In observing people and charts I know throughout these years, astrology has proven to hold truths that I believe holds good guidance and confidence to one’s life.
